This guide walks you through downloading, installing, and launching AutomationView on each supported platform.
- Go to automationview.app
- Sign in to your account, or create a new one if you do not have one yet
- Navigate to the Downloads page
- Select the installer for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
- Save the installer to your computer
Make sure your system meets the System Requirements before proceeding.
- Locate the downloaded
.exe installer (e.g., AutomationView-Setup-0.0.1.exe)
- Double-click the installer to launch it
- If prompted by Windows Defender SmartScreen, click More info and then Run anyway
- Choose your preferred installation directory, or accept the default location
- Select whether to add AutomationView to the Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts
- Click Install and wait for the process to complete
- Click Finish to close the installer
Launch AutomationView from the Start Menu, Desktop shortcut, or by searching for "AutomationView" in the Windows search bar.
You may need administrator privileges to install AutomationView on Windows. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator if the standard installation fails.
- Locate the downloaded
.dmg file (e.g., AutomationView-0.0.1.dmg)
- Double-click the
.dmg file to mount it
- Drag the AutomationView icon into the Applications folder
- Eject the disk image from Finder
- Open Applications and double-click AutomationView to launch it
If macOS displays a security warning because AutomationView was downloaded from the internet:
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security
- Scroll down and click Open Anyway next to the AutomationView message
- Confirm by clicking Open
You can also launch AutomationView using Spotlight: press Cmd+Space, type AutomationView, and press Enter.
When you open AutomationView for the first time, you are greeted with a Welcome screen that helps you configure the essentials:
- Theme - Choose between a light or dark interface theme
- Keyboard shortcuts - Select a shortcut preset that matches your preferences
- Getting started - Quick links to documentation and tutorials
Once you dismiss the Welcome screen, you see the main editor interface:
- File Explorer on the left - browse and manage your project files
- Editor Area in the center - write code or build Sequence diagrams visually
- Terminal at the bottom - run commands when needed
- Sidebar Panels - Sequence Explorer, Variables, and Emulation controls

AutomationView checks for updates automatically in the background. When a new version is available:
- A notification appears in the bottom-right corner of the editor
- Click Install Update to download and apply the update
- Restart AutomationView when prompted to complete the installation
To check for updates manually:
- Open the Command Palette with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (macOS)
- Search for AutomationView: Check for Updates
- Follow the on-screen prompts if an update is available
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Search for AutomationView
- Click the three-dot menu and select Uninstall
- Follow the prompts to remove AutomationView
- Open Applications in Finder
- Drag AutomationView to the Trash
- Empty the Trash to complete the removal
Uninstalling AutomationView does not delete your project files. Your .seq, and .machine files remain in their original locations.
